Jardín Botánico
A free botanical garden near the university with a stunning wooden orchidarium. It's where Medellín families come on weekends. The butterfly garden and the iguanas lounging in trees are highlights.
Pueblito Paisa
A replica traditional Antioquian village on top of Cerro Nutibara with panoramic city views. It's kitschy but the panorama of Medellín in the valley surrounded by mountains is spectacular. Free to visit.
Arví Park via Metrocable
Take the metro, then the cable car up to this cloud forest reserve. The hiking trails through misty forests feel like another world. The weekend farmers' market at the entrance sells local cheese and chocolate.
Museo de Antioquia Interior Courtyards
Beyond the Botero paintings, the museum's inner courtyards and rooftop cafe are serene. The Fernando Botero collection is the main draw but the temporary exhibitions are often excellent too.
Barefoot Park (Parque de los Pies Descalzos)
A free public park where you walk barefoot through sand, bamboo, and water features. It sounds odd but it's genuinely relaxing and fun. The adjacent Museum of Water is also worth exploring.
Mercado del Río
A food hall in a converted warehouse with vendors serving everything from sushi to arepas. The quality is high and it's where Medellín's food-obsessed young professionals eat. Try the craft beer from 3 Cordilleras.
Santa Elena Flower Farms
Visit the farms in the mountains above Medellín where the famous Feria de las Flores silletas (flower arrangements) are made. Some farms offer tours and the mountain air and views are refreshing.
