Hidden Gems in Paris
Skip the tourist traps. These are the secret spots, hidden corners, and local favourites that most visitors never find in Paris.
Secret spots in Paris
Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature
A quirky hunting museum in the Marais with contemporary art installations alongside taxidermy. The rooms are eccentric and beautiful — a polar bear in a bedroom, an owl room that hoots. Endlessly surprising.
Promenade Plantée
The original elevated park on a former rail line (before New York's High Line). Walk above the streets of the 12th arrondissement through gardens and under arches. Hardly any tourists know about it.
Canal Saint-Martin Locks
Watch the 19th-century lock system raise and lower boats along this photogenic canal. The iron footbridges and plane trees are quintessentially Parisian. The surrounding cafes are less touristy than the Marais.
Musée Nissim de Camondo
A stunning mansion near Parc Monceau decorated as an 18th-century aristocratic home. The family's tragic history (Holocaust victims) adds profound weight. It's intimate, moving, and rarely crowded.
Rue Crémieux
A tiny, colourful street in the 12th with pastel-painted houses — Paris's most Instagram-worthy secret. The residents are tired of influencers but a respectful quick visit is fine.
Parc des Buttes-Chaumont
A dramatic 19th-century park in the 19th arrondissement with a temple on a cliff, a suspension bridge, and waterfalls. The views from the belvedere are spectacular and tourists rarely make it here.
Sainte-Chapelle
The stained glass windows in this Gothic chapel are the most beautiful in the world — floor-to-ceiling kaleidoscopic colour. Visit on a sunny afternoon when light streams through. Often less queued than Notre-Dame.
Marché d'Aligre
A daily covered and open-air market in the 12th that's the most affordable in Paris. The North African section has incredible spices and the flea market stalls have vintage treasures.
