Free Things to Do in Marrakech
You don't need to spend a cent to have an incredible time in Marrakech. Here are the best free experiences the city has to offer.
Free activities in Marrakech
Jemaa el-Fna Square
Africa's most famous square is free to experience — snake charmers, henna artists, musicians, and acrobats perform all day. The energy at sunset is extraordinary. Keep valuables close.
Walk the Souks
The labyrinthine souks are free to wander — each alley specializes in different crafts: leather, textiles, metalwork, spices. Getting lost is half the fun. Use the Koutoubia minaret as your compass.
Koutoubia Mosque Gardens
The gardens surrounding Marrakech's largest mosque are free, shady, and beautiful. The 77m minaret is the city's landmark — visible from almost everywhere. The gardens at sunset are peaceful and photogenic.
Explore the Mellah (Jewish Quarter)
The historic quarter with its distinctive balconied houses is free to walk through. The main market here is less touristy than the central souks and the atmosphere is more local.
Menara Gardens
A 12th-century garden with a pavilion and reflecting pool backed by the Atlas Mountains. It's free, spacious, and the mountain reflections in the pool are gorgeous. Visit on clear days for snow-capped peaks.
Walk the City Walls
Marrakech's 19km pink-red ramparts are free to walk alongside. The gates (babs) are spectacular — Bab Agnaou is the most ornate. The walls glow at golden hour.
Cyber Park (Arsat Moulay Abdeslam)
A restored 18th-century royal garden with WiFi, fountains, and palm-lined paths. It's free, central, and peaceful. Locals come to relax and the contrast with the chaotic souks is refreshing.
Sunset from Djemaa el-Fna Terraces
Several cafes around the square charge only for a drink to access their rooftop terraces. A mint tea costs a few dirhams and the panoramic sunset view over the square and city is priceless.
