Hidden Gems in Santorini

Skip the tourist traps. These are the secret spots, hidden corners, and local favourites that most visitors never find in Santorini.

Secret spots in Santorini

Santorini
01

Vlychada Beach and Moonscape

A dramatic beach with towering white cliffs sculpted by wind into lunar formations. The beach is quiet and the cliffs are extraordinary for photos. The small marina nearby has great tavernas.

Akrotiri Archaeological Site, Santorini
02

Akrotiri Archaeological Site

A Minoan city preserved under volcanic ash — often called the 'Greek Pompeii.' The frescoes and urban layout reveal a sophisticated 3,600-year-old civilization. Far fewer visitors than it deserves.

Pyrgos Village, Santorini
03

Pyrgos Village

The highest village on Santorini with a medieval Venetian castle at the top. The winding alleys, churches, and 360-degree views are spectacular. A fraction of the tourists compared to Oia.

Hike from Fira to Oia, Santorini
04

Hike from Fira to Oia

A 10km caldera-edge trail connecting the two main towns with constant views of the volcanic islands below. It takes 3-4 hours, passes through Imerovigli and Firostefani, and the scenery is breathtaking.

Santo Wines Winery, Santorini
05

Santo Wines Winery

An open-air wine terrace perched on the caldera rim with panoramic views. The wine tasting of volcanic Assyrtiko and Vinsanto (dessert wine) is excellent. Sunset tastings are the most popular — book ahead.

Amoudi Bay, Santorini
06

Amoudi Bay

Below Oia's famous sunset point, 300 steps lead down to this tiny fishing harbour. Swim from the rocks, jump from the low cliff into deep blue water, and eat grilled fish at waterfront tables.

Santorini
07

Art Space Winery

An art gallery inside ancient wine caves in Exo Gonia. The contemporary sculpture and painting exhibitions share space with wine barrels. The cave wine tasting is atmospheric and the art is surprisingly good.

Therasia Island, Santorini
08

Therasia Island

The small, quiet island across the caldera from Santorini, reachable by local boat. Manolas village has a few tavernas, a pumice beach, and virtually no tourists. It's what Santorini was 40 years ago.
