Bia Hơi Corner

The intersection of Tạ Hiện and Lương Ngọc Quyến is Hanoi's most famous beer corner. Sit on tiny plastic stools and drink fresh bia hơi (draft beer) for 25 cents a glass. The chaos is the charm.

Water Puppet Theatre

A traditional Vietnamese art form at the Thăng Long theatre. The puppets dance on water while musicians play live. It's beautiful, unique to Vietnam, and the 50-minute show is perfect. Book ahead.

Hanoi Social Club

A three-storey colonial house turned bar and live music venue in the Old Quarter. Jazz, acoustic sets, and the occasional DJ night. The cocktails are creative and the vibe is artistic.

Night Street Food on Đồng Xuân

After the main market closes, food vendors set up around Đồng Xuân Market. The phở bò, bánh mì, and grilled meat skewers are incredible and cheap. Eating in the night air is atmospheric.

An ancient form of Vietnamese chamber music that's a UNESCO intangible heritage. Intimate performances at the Kim Ngân Temple in the Old Quarter are mesmerizing — the three musicians create haunting soundscapes.
