Mezcalería Bósforo

A legendary mezcal bar in the Centro Histórico with hundreds of mezcals and no cocktail menu. The staff guide you through smoky, complex spirits. The atmosphere is dark, loud, and wonderful.

Garibaldi Plaza

The mariachi capital of the world — dozens of bands in full regalia competing for your attention. Hire a group for a song (negotiate first), drink tequila, and enjoy the spectacle. Best after 10pm.

Hanky Panky

One of the world's best cocktail bars, hidden behind an unmarked door in Colonia Juárez. The molecular cocktails and the speakeasy atmosphere are extraordinary. Book online — walk-ins are rare.

Salón Los Ángeles

A 1930s dance hall in the Guerrero neighbourhood where cumbia and salsa bands play for a crowd that really knows how to dance. It's gritty, authentic, and the music is incredible.

A hotel rooftop bar overlooking the Zócalo and the illuminated cathedral. The mezcal cocktails are excellent and watching the light show on the cathedral facade from above is magical.

Foro Shakespeare

An independent theatre in Condesa hosting experimental plays, comedy, and live music. The programming is edgy and the crowd is artistic. Check listings — the late-night shows are always interesting.

Street Tacos After Midnight

Taco stands fire up across the city after midnight. Los Cocuyos in the Centro and the stands along Insurgentes in Roma are reliable. Late-night tacos with strangers is a Mexico City ritual.
