Skip the tourist traps. These are the secret spots, hidden corners, and local favourites that most visitors never find in Seoul.
Secret spots in Seoul
Ikseon-dong Hanok Village
A tiny neighbourhood of 1920s traditional houses turned into cafes, boutiques, and restaurants. The narrow alleyways are charming and the contrast with surrounding modern Seoul is striking.
Ihwa Mural Village
A hillside neighbourhood in Naksan covered in murals and art installations. The winding stairs and painted walls create a free open-air gallery. The views of the city from the top are excellent.
Seoullo 7017 Skygarden
A former highway overpass turned into an elevated garden park. The 983m walkway has 24,000 plants and connects Seoul Station to the surrounding neighbourhoods. Best at sunset when the city lights up below.
Bukchon Hanok Village Early Morning
The traditional houses are best experienced at dawn before tour groups arrive. The tile rooftops against the modern city behind create Seoul's most iconic contrast. Respect residents' privacy — it's a living neighbourhood.
Noryangjin Fish Market
A massive wholesale fish market where you choose your seafood live and have it prepared upstairs. The sannakji (live octopus) is an adventure and the sashimi platters are astonishingly fresh and cheap.
Seongsu-dong (Seoul's Brooklyn)
A former shoe-manufacturing district transformed into Seoul's hippest neighbourhood. Converted warehouses house concept cafes, galleries, and boutiques. The coffee scene here is incredible.
