Best Restaurants in Bali
A curated guide to the best restaurants in Bali — from iconic local institutions to under-the-radar spots worth crossing the city for.
Where to eat in Bali
Locavore
Ubud's world-class restaurant uses only Indonesian ingredients in creative tasting menus. The fermented rice course is mind-blowing. Book at least a month ahead — it's Bali's hardest reservation.
Warung Babi Guling Ibu Oka
Anthony Bourdain put this Ubud warung on the map and the suckling pig is still the best on the island. Go before noon — they often sell out by 1pm. Get the special with crispy skin, sausage, and soup.
La Lucciola
A Seminyak beachfront institution with Italian-Indonesian fusion done right. The seafood risotto is excellent and the sunset views from the upstairs terrace are unbeatable. Book a window table.
Merah Putih
Housed in a stunning cathedral-like bamboo structure in Seminyak, this serves elevated Indonesian cuisine. The rawon (black beef soup) and the rendang are both exceptional. Great cocktail list too.
Barbacoa
A fire-cooking focused restaurant in Petitenget with South American influences. The wood-fired octopus is tender and smoky, and the open-kitchen atmosphere is electric. Reservations essential.
Warung Mak Beng
A no-frills warung in Sanur that's been serving one dish for decades — fried fish with rice, sambal, and soup. That's it. No menu. And it's absolutely perfect. Under $3 for a meal.
Hujan Locale
Will Meyrick's Ubud restaurant celebrates Southeast Asian street food with refined technique. The laksa is incredibly aromatic and the sambal collection is addictive. The heritage building is gorgeous.
The Slow
Canggu's coolest restaurant-bar in a brutalist-chic space. The menu is modern Australian-Asian and everything from the kingfish crudo to the wagyu burger is dialled in. Great natural wines by the glass.
