Things to Do at Night in Amsterdam
From rooftop bars to late-night street food, here's how to experience Amsterdam after the sun goes down.
Best nightlife in Amsterdam
Paradiso
A legendary music venue in a converted church near Leidseplein. The acoustics are divine and the programming covers everything from indie to electronic. Check listings — something great is always on.
Shelter
An underground techno club beneath A'DAM Tower in Noord. It's dark, sweaty, and has one of the best sound systems in Europe. Opens late and runs until morning — this is Amsterdam club culture at its finest.
Café Papeneiland
A 17th-century brown café on the Prinsengracht that's been pouring beers since 1642. The apple pie is legendary, the jenever is smooth, and the candlelit atmosphere is peak Amsterdam.
De School
A former school turned underground club and restaurant in West. The nightclub has a strict door policy but rewards you with world-class DJs and a crowd that actually dances. Restaurant is excellent too.
Pllek
A beach bar made of shipping containers on the IJ waterfront in Noord. At night, the city skyline reflects off the water — grab a craft beer and settle into a deckchair. Free ferry from Centraal.
Rooftop Bar at W Hotel
The best panoramic view of Amsterdam at night. Cocktails are pricey but the 360-degree vista of lit-up canals and church spires is worth it. Arrive before 9pm to skip the queue.
