Best Beaches in Lisbon
Sun, sand, and crystal-clear water — these are the best beaches in and around Lisbon for every kind of beach day.
Top beaches in Lisbon
Praia de Carcavelos
The closest great beach to Lisbon — 20 minutes by train. Long, wide, and with consistent surf. The beach bars serve decent food and cold Sagres. Popular but never feels overcrowded.
Costa da Caparica
A 30km stretch of Atlantic beaches south of Lisbon with distinct vibes — families in the north, surfers and nudists further south. Take the mini-train along the coast to find your perfect spot.
Praia da Ursa
Lisbon's most dramatic beach — massive rock formations rising from golden sand. A steep 20-minute scramble to reach it keeps the crowds away. The reward is a wild, pristine beach that feels prehistoric.
Praia de Galapinhos
Voted one of Europe's best beaches — crystal-clear turquoise water in the Arrábida Natural Park south of Lisbon. Access is limited (arrive early in summer) and the setting is breathtaking.
Praia do Guincho
A wild, windy beach west of Cascais popular with surfers and kitesurfers. The waves are powerful, the sand dunes are dramatic, and the seafood restaurants along the coast road are excellent.
Praia da Adraga
A rocky cove in Sintra's coast with dramatic cliffs and clear water. Less accessible than Guincho so it stays quieter. The sunset views from the cliff path above are extraordinary.
