A tiny East Village espresso bar that's been a neighbourhood institution for years. The olive oil cake is legendary and the espresso is strong, sweet, and perfectly pulled. Cash only, standing room.

Sey Coffee

A Bushwick specialty roaster in a beautiful industrial space. The coffee is light-roasted and fruit-forward — their approach is more Nordic than Italian. The tasting flights are educational.

La Cabra

A Danish specialty roastery that opened in the Flatiron District. The light roasts are elegant and the Scandinavian pastries are exceptional. The minimalist design is calming amid Midtown chaos.

Russ & Daughters Cafe

While famous for smoked fish, the cafe's coffee and babka are outstanding. The egg cream (chocolate syrup, milk, seltzer) is a New York classic you can't get anywhere else.

Cafe Grumpy

A Brooklyn-born roaster with several locations. The Greenpoint original has the best vibe — industrial space, serious baristas, and the espresso that fuelled the early 2010s coffee revolution.

Black Fox Coffee

A massive Financial District cafe with a full brew bar, excellent pastries, and a rotating roster of guest roasters. The cold brew on tap is smooth and strong. Perfect for Downtown workers.

Maman

A French-inspired bakery-cafe with beautiful interiors and the most famous chocolate chip cookie in the city. The lattes are silky and the space in SoHo is gorgeous. Weekend brunch draws crowds.
